Biography

James Owens Honeywell, Jim, passed away January 21st at the age of 80, following a lengthy illness. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Jim was honored to be appointed to and graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. One week after graduation in June of 1952, he married Nancy C. Cooper and began active service as an officer in the U. S. Navy. His final tour of duty was served on the USS Forrestal aircraft carrier. Jim resigned his commission as a Lieutenant j,g. in 1957, returned to Baltimore and began working as a sales engineer for Baltimore Aircoil Company. In 1965 Jim moved to Madera to become the general manager of the new west coast division of the company. Jim left BAC in 1978 and founded Evapco West Inc, in partnership with Evapco, Jim guided that business as Owner, and CEO until leaving in 1984. Jim remained on the Evapco Board of Directors until recently, and enjoyed periodic visits touring the local plant as it has continued to grow.

Jim, was an avid bridge player and duplicate bridge life master, played as often as possible. He is a past member of Rotary, International. Jim served on the Juvenile Justice Commission, was a mentor for the Junior Achievement program, and served on the vestry of Trinity Episcopal Church.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy, his daughter, Joyce Honeywell-Young and her husband Kim Young of Madera, and son (Jimmy) James S. Honeywell of Fresno, and 4 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 26 at Jay Chapel, 1121 Roberts Ave.

Jim was a life long Episcopalian and a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Madera. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be sent to Holy Trinity Memorial Fund, P. O. Box 517, Madera, Ca. 93639, or to the charity of their choice.
