Biography
Angelo Massetti, born on August 13, 1919 in the Scandinavian Colony District of Fresno, passed away peacefully in his Madera home on February 26, 2010 with his family by his side. He was 90 years old. Born to Giovanni and Rosa Massetti, Angelo was raised on a ranch in Madera. He is preceded in death by his grandson, Kyle Lauck and three brothers, Secondo, Joe, and Fred.
In 1935 Angelo, along with his brothers Fred and Joe, started their own radio business, a partnership that lasted for over 50 years. The day after the Pearl Harbor attacks in 1941, Angelo enlisted in the U.S. Navy reserves, closing their business for the duration of WWII.
During the three years of his service, Angelo was stationed in Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines. Angelo specialized in ship and shore installations of radar, port direction, and supersonic; he held the rank of Chief Radio Technician.
In October of 1945, Angelo returned home and resumed business with his brothers, closing the shop in 1988.
Angelo was a devoted member of St Joachim's Catholic Church. He was also involved in Knights of Columbus, ITLO American Club, VFW, Young Men's Institute, and Elks Lodge and was a past member of the Madera Golf and Country Club. In 2008 he received the National Catholic Elementary Schools Distinguished Graduate Award for his notable service to the Catholic Church.
Angelo's dedication to his family is a reflection of his own kindness and generosity. His courage, strength, and ultimately his acceptance these last weeks were an inspiration we hold dear. We will miss him but we also celebrate his life. He lives on in each of us through his example of hard work, determination, dignity, humor, kindness, forgiveness and love.
His family would like to thank all of those who cared for him, especially Dr. Allan Nassar. They are also grateful for their friends and relatives for their love and immeasurable support.
He is survived by his wife Gloria of 64 years; his daughters, Janet and her husband Steve Lauck, Carol and her husband Bill Walters; son, Bill and his wife Karen; his grandchildren, Stephanie Lauck, Jennifer Massetti-Still, Alison Massetti-Hopkins, Anne Lauck, Brett Massetti, and Megan Massetti.
