Biography

Verline Freeman Mendoza, age 89 of Madera, passed away on January 13, 2012 at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Fresno. Verline was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, one of 14 children born to Henry and Jeannie Freeman. She moved to Madera as a youngster where she grew up in rural Madera County, attending Berenda Elementary School. She later met and married Nestor Mendoza, a member of a well-known Portuguese family in the San Joaquin Valley, while he was serving in the U. S. Army during World War II. They were married for 64 years until his passing in August of 2005. Nestor was a mechanic supervisor for 30 years at Ameron Pipe before his retirement and during that time Verline was employed for 5 years at Davis Instruments in San Leandro, Ca as an assembler and later at Lerner's Women's Wear both in San Leandro and Hayward as a Sales Associate. Verline and Nestor returned once again to make their home in Madera following their retirement. They enjoyed traveling in their motorhomes throughout the United States or cruising the Delta waterways in their steelcraft boat. Verline also enjoyed making porcelain dolls.

Verline is survived by her daughter Brenta Erwin and her husband Mike of Madera, her son Dan Mendoza of Northern CA. and her last surviving sister Nadine Dailey of Portland, Oregon.
She is the beloved grandmother of Erin Martin, Mckenzie Erwin, Michael Mendoza, Brian Mendoza and James Mendoza and the great grandmother of Corey Martin.

Visitation will be on Friday, January 20, 2012 from 9 AM to 1 PM at Jay Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 1 PM in The Jay Chapel. The Service will conclude at Jay Chapel. Private interment will be in Arbor Vitae Cemetery in Madera.
