Tribute

Josephine Ann (Joane) Thornton, 91, went to heaven on April 16th 2024 after living a Wonderful Happy life on this earth with her beloved husband Dan. She has been healed and made whole again by her Heavenly Father. Joane was born January 28th, 1933 in Perry, Iowa to Theodore Roosevelt Cole and Vestel Lavonia Cole. She was married to Daniel on October 28th, 1951. She had two sons Mark Randall Thornton and Paul Eric Thornton.

Joane graduated from Livingston High School in 1950. She was a skilled and dedicated member of the medical community and worked in many hospitals in the Fresno area as a nursing aid!

Joane was very Patriotic-Supporting her husband Daniel who served 2 terms in the United States Air Force & many of her family members who also served!

She loved music especially Country music and was known to play a mean gut bucket, squeeze box, mandolin , and keyboard with family and friends. She watched country music every Saturday night faithfully! She also enjoyed square dancing, activities with her sons, camping with family, and enjoying any and all get togethers with Friends and Family. She loved telling stories about her working days in the hospitals and her adventures with family over the years. She had a big heart and loved to laugh.

Joane loved her family and leaves behind to treasure her memories her son Mark Thornton and wife Jane, grandchildren Travis Thornton, Tera Fry ( Will Sykes) , Jesa Herman (Blaine Hanson) & Amanda (Craig) Dennis; Great Grandchildren Noah (Destiny ) Thornton, Mara (Levi) White, Joel Jr and Faith Fry, and Jase Dennis and great granddaughter Winona White, Jane’s daughters Jennifer (Phil) Faries and Jessica (DÉanté) Tolliver, and Olivia and Grace Faries and Robinson Tolliver. All of who loved her beyond words! She was also greatly loved by her Brother in law Tom Zerung, Daughter in law Linda Thornton and many nephews & nieces and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Daniel Curtis Thornton, Brother Stanley Cole, Sisters Leota Brewer and Juanita Zerung, her parents, Grandson in law Jeremy Herman, Niece Lana Machado, Nephew Ricky Zerung, and Beloved youngest Son Paul Thornton.
We all know there will be a Wonderful Reunion in Heaven with so much singing, laughter and love!

The family would like to thank the staff at OK Complete Hospice for taking exceptional care of her and her family during her final days.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, April 30, 2024 from 9:30-11-30 at Jay Chapel Funeral Home, in Madera, CA. With Graveside services following at 1:30pm at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans Association.
