Michelle Renee McDowell

Michelle Renee McDowell, (Shelly) to many friends and family, age 50 passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 14th, 2024 surrounded by family and friends. Shelly was born in Fresno, California to Bob & Margaret McDowell and was the youngest of four children. She was a long-time Madera resident.

Shelly’s life from childhood was plagued with illness but her deep faith in Christ, the power of prayer and love from family gave her the courage to endure.

Shelly graduated the Class of ’93 from Madera High School and attended Fresno City College where she earned an Associates Degree with a Library Technician certificate. She began her career at Fresno Christian Schools then transferred to Central High School East Campus where she worked almost 25 years. Shelly loved to serve and mentor students and strived to make the library a sanctuary for all. However, due to her recent illness, regretfully retired earlier this year.

Our dear Shelly found joy in planning family gatherings and delighted in all the details. She was always the designated coffee maker at every gathering and continued the tradition of making the family recipe of the Thanksgiving stuffing. Shelly had a warm, friendly personality that shined a light that touched the hearts of everyone she encountered. Her sweet and welcoming smile will forever be remembered by many.

Shelly is preceded in death by her Father Bob McDowell who passed in 2011.

She is survived by her Mother Margaret McDowell, Brothers Doug McDowell and wife Maral, James McDowell and Sister Jennifer McDowell. Nieces and Nephews Jarrod McDowell, Alek McDowell and wife Arianna, Taleen McDowell, Katerina McDowell and Ian McDowell. Aunts and Uncles David Dollar and wife Ruth, Dianne Newell and husband JL, and Martha McDowell, as well as numerous “Crazy Cuzins”.
